Abigail Mill inspired embroidery

Had lots of fun making this free motion machine embroidered picture,  already planning the next one.
I was bought a lovely book written by textile artist Abigail Mill, I will put a link at the end of this post.

She talks you through detailed instructions on how to create 5 free motion applique projects and inspires you to put your own stamp on the designs.
This is my take on one of the projects in the book.

Lots of organza fabric used in the background and just rummage through your fabric scrap boxes for the other elements,  sand , grass,  huts, etc.
It was great fun free motion is one of my favourite sewing techniques,  first used it on my quilts,  so really enjoying these smaller projects.
I also love the 3D effect of the raised items in the front of the picture.

This is the wonderful book I used,  I can highly recommend beautiful photography and detailed instructions

Applique Wall Hanging

My daughter had painted her bedroom, she has a large wall and asked me to make something to hang on it.
This is what I came up with

I downloaded a few templates off the web, then cut out the shapes and had fun arranging on the fabric into the above  design

After ironing into place i then did some free motion machine stitching over the flowers and leaves so they had a sketchy look,  I used some bright rayon thread that has a lovely sheen on it

For the background quilting I did some free motion meandering adding hearts as I went along

To the back I added a sleeve,  a decorative ended pole can be slipped in here to hang the quilt on the wall

Thanks for visiting.
